She was a close relation of one of the Guy Fawkes conspirators and suffered socially for it, withdrawing from society and stitching instead. She produced a wonderful trove of exquisitely worked ecclesiastical vestments that mixed metal and silk threads. You can see some photos from an exhibition of her work, including the chalice veil here: http://thistle-threads.blogspot.com/2015/11/driving-to-england-day-4-part-1.html The photo I showed was from the exhibition book, Plots and Spangles. It is now out of print, but if you can find it it is full of fabulous eye candy. The design and history of 17th century embroidered caskets - a truly fascinating topic, whether you ever want to stitch one yourself or not - was fully covered in Cabinet of Curiosities Part I, an online course from Thistle Threads that is now running again: https://thistle-threads.myshopify.com/products/cabinet-of-curiosities-read-only The only casket still in stock from Thistle Threads is the Harmony with Nature casket, discussed here - a short flat casket that comes with complete materials, instructions, and designs: https://thistle-threads.myshopify.com/products/harmony-with-nature-casket The latest Frostings box from Thistle Threads (not yet shipped, so not the source of the materials shown here): https://thistle-threads.myshopify.com/products/frostings-8
