Owltober SAL Announcement! | Flosstube Extra

Summary AI

In this ad-hoc Flosstube extra, Sparrowlarke Crafts announces the Owltober SAL, a casual stitch-along for October where participants stitch designs with an owl as the dominant subject. The host, an Australian stitcher, explains that she created this event as an alternative to the typical Halloween-themed stitching, since Halloween isn't a tradition she grew up with. She shares her own plans to stitch two kits from her stash: a counted KK kit and a stamped Painting Fairy kit, both purchased from DreamStitch, and offers several other pattern suggestions, including free options and library resources.

  • Announces the Owltober SAL for October, a casual stitch-along with no set pattern or end date
  • Plans to stitch two owl kits from her stash: a counted KK kit and a stamped Painting Fairy kit
  • Suggests several owl patterns, including a free one from OwlForest and 'The Cranky Owl' by Modern Folk Embroidery
  • Recommends using library apps like Libby to access cross-stitch magazines for free patterns
  • Requests participants avoid AI-generated patterns and AI thumbnails, as she finds them off-putting
  • Shares a tip for partial stitches on tight evenweave: pre-poke holes with a sharp pin
Description from YouTube
Hey friends! I'm here with an ad-hoc extra video this week to talk about the Owltober SAL event I'm running next month! I'll share what I'll personally be stitching on as well as a couple of my favourite owl-related patterns to give you some ideas to join in

Guidelines for Owltober:
1. The design(s) you stitch should have an Owl as the dominant subject
2. Either counted or stamped is totally fine!
3. Share your work by tagging me in Youtube descriptions and using the #OwltoberSAL tag, or feel free to email me your progress/finish photos at sparrowlarke.crafts@gmail.com
4. Please avoid buying AI generated patterns where possible, and please do not tag me in videos that use AI during their production (both video and thumbnail).

There's no hard "end date" for this, so please don't feel like you need to rush!
